What do all the different colours of scrubs represent for nurses?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: scrubs

Ok… so I was watching this advertisment for nurses on tv and one had a brown scrub, another had a purple one, and the other had a green one. I know the green is for surgical procedures, but what do all the other colours stand for? Do you know all the colours of scrubs?
10 POINTS FOR WHO DOES!

i work in a hospital and certain color scrubs represent different people like light blue is for surgery, burgundy is for respitory therapists, green are for nurses, purple are for nursing assistants and the secretarys that work on the floor usually wear dress like clothes or they can also wear scrubs, which dont matter what color. i work in transport and they like us to wear black pants and light blue polos. also the radiologists wear all black. i know because i work for radiology. they like to have us wear certain attire so they know whose who.

Does anybody remember "lab coats" that were all the rage in 2000? Are they the same as topper coats now?

I have a "lab coat" that I bought in 2000 and am wondering if I can get by with wearing it now — pretending that it is a topper coat. My theory is the fashion industry just changed the name so I might feel compelled to buy something new.

u know fashion repeats it self. all they do is add something that the other didn't have and call it the new fashion!!!!!

Are lab coats made of or dressed with a special substance? What is so special about them?

Why are they necessary in labs?

Most labcoats are made from cotton or a cotton/polymer blend. They are fairly robust, but are not particulrly remarkable.

And they are neccessary in order to protect your clothing and you from chemical or biological spills. Obviously, many lab chemicals are harmless, but many are harmful or irritant. Similarly, if you spill a bacterial culture on yourself then you will stink, and will have a chance of getting an infection.
In the event of a spillage, you can just remove your labcoat.

where to get lab coats cleaned?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: lab coats

I need to find a company in the uk that offer a cleaning service for lab coats? is this something a general dry cleaners would do or would they need to go to a specialist because they are used in labs?

I would expect a general dry cleaners would clean them, but I guess it depends if your working in a clean room or not? I'm going to guess that a clean room will have strict guide lines and do's and don'ts.
To be honest I take the lab coats home from work every couple of months and shove them in my washing machine. (Although last time I forgot to turn off the dryer function and I shrunk them… oops!)
But nothing we deal with is going to be bothered by dust or soap powder, and likewise we don't deal with anything harmful which could be taken out our lab/ test areas.
Long answer and not a lot of help, sorry.

Why are the nursing uniforms called scrubs?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: nursing uniforms

To expand on the other answers, the name comes from the act of "scrubbing in" prior to surgery, which involves changing into a clean surgical outfit (aka scrubs), meticulously washing the hands and arms ("scrubbing"), and then walking into the OR to put on a sterile gown and gloves prior to the surgery.
Nurses had not worn scrubs traditionally until the last 20 or so years, since the classic nursing uniform was the all white uniform that is now only seen in Halloween costumes…

Where is a cheap online or catalog place to buy WHITE scrubs / nursing uniforms?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: nursing uniforms

I am taking a nursing aide class in the fall. I have to have solid white scrubs. I already have a solid white pair of new shoes(prof. cheerleading shoes, they can take a beating, and help to reduce chafing and sores). Where can I find a super cheap place that sells solid white scrubs?? Also any advice on how to get through this training and prep for the job at hand? I am a really fast learner. This is not a permanent profession for me, I just need a job that places are demanding and pay alright(at least better than the fast food places and you have to work just as hard). I am not a mean person. The way I look at things are like this: it's my job so I have to do it!, Even though I'm doing this for the money that doesn't mean I'm going to be MEAN to the patients. I want to respect them and know I am there to help( I know some are crazy but that's ok). Cleaning up crap is not a job anyone truly likes all the time there, but it's a job and somebody's got to do it.

well if walmart has scrubs pretty cheap and if you have a jcpenny outlet near you they would probably have the cheapest I can think of.
