As either lay persons or health care professionals what does the nurses uniform mean to you? Is it important that they where a uniform?
Which uniform would you prefer to see a nurse wear, the modern scrub type, or the white dress?
What about the cap?

I am curious to hear all responses

as a nurse myself, I like the modern ones, but in school, we had to wear the whites with the cap and i was proud to do so
but really, having to starch and iron the cap, and the whites
is time consuming.
As a Hospice nurse we don’t wear uniforms, and I do miss them,
makes it easy to dress in the morning. and cheaper than always
having to think what will i wear today??? a real hassle.

I have a friend that works in the medical field. I my be gettign a new job that will require me to wear scrubs.

She says she has to iron her scrubs every mornign. She can't iron them the night before and hang them up because they will be wrinkled in the morning..

is this true. I can't be ironing every morning–I iron 1x/week and hang teh clothes up-until I wear them-even months later

do scrubs (she wears average quality) really need to be ironed immediately prior to wearing?

I've been wearing scrubs for years, and I never iron them. Don't get anything 100% cotton and you'll be fine. Polyester/cotton blends don't wrinkle at all. It all depends on the material. Most of the scrubs that I have are fine as long as I hang them up after they are done in the dryer (even the 100% cotton ones). Just don't let them sit in the dryer long, and even if they do, just throw in a damp towel and let the dryer on for a few minutes. Trust me, it's not worth ironing them. By the time I get home from work, it will have made no difference. Some people do prefer to iron them; I worked with a lady who did that as well. The only way I could tell was because she told me. I think it's just a habit for some people. If you really want to iron them, you can do that in advance when you do all of your ironing and that will be just fine. Hope that helps!

I have often been envious of having something like scrubs to wear to work and at time thought the business world should go for something so uniform and convenient but I have never really asked anyone about the drawbacks of drawstring work wear.

they are my daily work clothes.
pros i don't have to worry about what am i gonna wear that day to work.
cons is my scrubs are 85% of my wardrobe b/c i spend more money on buying new ones and work alot at the hospital that i forget to buy clothes to go out in until i have plans to do so and realize i have nothing to wear but scrubs..

I've checked Wikipedia and their answer wasn't very clear to me. I was wondering about the difference between the "orange scrubs" and the "working cloths" and the colors of the working cloths, if they are indeed used and consistant in look.

They only wear the orange uniforms when they are scrubbing fruit, toilets, floors, sinks, walls, etc.

The working clothes are various colors, depending on the day of the week.
Monday: Pink
Tuesday: Yellow
Wednesday: Purple
Thursday: Red
Friday: Green
Saturday: White
Sunday: Black

I was thinking about making some scrub tops because finding guy scrub tops are miserable. Has anyone actually tried to make them? Was it hard (do i need some serious sewing machine experience)? Any tips to make sure they do not rip/tear and make them look professional? Thank you.

Could you really make them for cheaper? I'm sure they would be original and nice, but it hardly seams worth the effort when they are so cheap.

Hands down, Tafford. Wal-mart has some OK stuff, but everyone gets scrubs there and they're quality is worse and usually cost more.

Allheart has some decent prices, but their customer service is terrible! My friend just had a problem with her order, and they wont even answer the phones to help her. She wasted her money there.
