Scrubs Caps

Posted by: admin  :  Category: scrubs uniforms

There’s plenty on this site about scrubs uniforms, but what about scrub caps? Scrub caps or hats have gone from being simply functional to being a personalizable accessory. This change took place in the operating room as well as outside the medical buildings. Many years ago (like back in the 1940’s) hats were not considered necessary in surgery. Not long after that, as hygiene became more of a focus, caps became very standard in an effort to help protect the patients from the many contaminations found in hair. Picture this: caps that were full-faced were often designed for men with beards. Pay no attention to the masked man hovering over you. Sorry, poor attempt at humor there. To this day, these caps are distributed by Group purchasing organizations. GPOs supply hospitals with much of their equipment. In the 1970’s, there was a medical fashion ‘revolution.’ It was during that time that medical professionals began to personalize their scrubs by sewing their hats or even buying premade eclectic fabric caps. There were several styles that were popular at that time, such as the ‘bouffant’, a utilitarian hairnet hat, and a bonnet-like wrap around hat.
